lang_description: "Hyow is spoken in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh. There are around 4000 Hyow speakers in Bangladesh, with two varieties spoken on lowlands and highlands. Hyow who live in lowlands are called Laitu, which is a name of another language group in the Rakhaine state of southern Myanmar. People living in the highlands call themselves Kontu. Hyow do not have a writing system, and is not taught at schools. Though the language is spoken by young generations, there are continuous contacts with other major language groups, Bangla (national language) and Marma (an Arakanese dialect), which are threats to natural maintenance of the language.",
